Dispatch Discover “America, Location 12”

Brad Corrigan discusses the songs that shaped his sound

Dispatch

In the five years since Dispatch released Circles Around the Sun, fans have grown understandably excited awaiting the announcement of a sixth studio album.  The eventual release, America, Location 12, dropped in June and quickly peaked inside the top 100 of the Billboard album chart. “Only The Wild Ones” became the band’s first single to reach the Top 10 at AAA radio.

With a career now spanning two decades, Dispatch nonetheless continues to grow their fanbase with each new album. America, Location 12 finds the band reaching new heights and diving deeper than ever before. The trio is next set for a blitzkrieg tour of Europe – eleven shows in two weeks – before returning to the United States in October.

ARTISTdirect caught up with Brad Corrigan to discuss the band’s new album, the tracks that remind him of home, and what song he’d play at his own funeral.

First single I bought…

I think I was 10 years old and heard Matthew Wilder’s “Ain’t Nobody Gonna Break My Stride”… it was the first time where a chorus hook grabbed me!

First live show I attended…

ZZ Top at age 12. No idea how my parents green lit that one but I do remember massive spinning guitars, lasers, and these funny smelling cigarettes that everyone was passing around ☺

First song I learned to play…

Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here

The song that encouraged me to learn my instrument of choice…

Zeppelin’s “Tangerine” or Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”

The song that reminds me of home…

The Samples “Nature”… Big Head Todd “Bittersweet”

My Guilty secret track…

Haddaway’s “What Is Love”!!!

The song I wish I wrote…

Pearl Jam’s “State of Love + Trust” or DMB’s “Seek Up”

The Finest song from my all time hero…

“Hallelujah” – Leonard Cohen… Jeff Buckley’s version absolutely slays me…

The song I’ve written of which I’m most proud…

Dispatch – “Flag”

Brad Corrigan – “Apology”

The song that should be played at my funeral…

“It Is Well With My Soul”… public domain hymn.. This song is as good as it gets as a blessing and lament…

My favorite track from my most recent project…

“Rice Water” from our new album… Has a particular weight to it in today’s political times… song is in large part about the most basic human desire for a safe place to live, at any cost…
