Blondie & Garbage Live In Seattle

Not much rage, but a whole lot of rapture as a pair of alternative music legends hit the road together

Blondie Garbage Rage and Rapture Tour SeattleThursday July 13, 2017 at the Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery Amphitheater in Woodinville, WA

What happens when you take two of your favorite alternative artists and propel them out into the bright sunshine from their natural habitat of dark clubs and arenas? If those artists are Blondie and Garbage, then the answer is simple: the power of the songwriting shines, and the smiles of everyone concerned can be seen from a mile away…

When both bands (and for that matter, entertaining opening act John Doe & Exene Cervenka of X) have seen it all, done it all, and literally written a book about it, even the most hardcore of former young punks seem primed and ready to have some fun on a sunlight evening at a winery in the green countryside near Seattle, WA.

Though Blondie and Garbage both sprinkled in tracks from their well-received new albums, greatest hits sets abounded, so whether you wanted to prowl to the sounds of “Queer” and “Stupid Girl”, pogo to “Call Me”, or slink sublimely through some “Rapture”, then this was the night for you – especially if you fancy doing all of the above with a bottle of wine in your hand.

Blondie Seattle Rage Rapture TourWhat does remain of the punk spirit was reflected in profanity-laced banter (especially from the delightfully potty-mouthed Shirley Manson) – representative sample: “Our manager told us that playing a slow song when you are sharing a stage with an icon is career suicide… we said, ‘Nah, I don’t think so – F*** Off!’”

There were far more smiles than sneers to be found, both on the stage and in the large crowd, and to a soundtrack of Bond themes, Top Ten hits and fan favorites, this was a twilight show where jackets were shed, dance moves showcased and solos nailed. Oh, and a spectacular piece of headwear was revealed to have a deeper meaning

In short – if you are a fan of either of these artists, this is a lovely show to be a part of, and if you like them both, it should be one of your best nights of the Summer of 2017.
