Hayley Kiyoko Catches “Feelings”

Singer-songwriter talks about the songs that influenced her music

Hayley Kiyoko

It seems like Hayley Kiyoko can do pretty much anything. The actress, singer, songwriter, and music video director has already released three EP’s, and is now preparing her debut LP. Back in October, she released the album’s first single, “Feelings”, and delivered the self-directed music video as well.

Hayley’s self-directed music videos have collectively amassed over 125 million views on YouTube, and “Feelings” promises to only add to that number. The track is another piece of honest, straightforward pop that is just as catchy as it is pognant.

ARTISTdirect caught up with Hayley Kiyoko to discuss the songs that influenced her music, the tracks she is most proud of penning, and the music she’d want played at her funeral.

First single I bought…

I have NO idea lol it was probably an album i bought at Tower records. Britney, P!nk or NSYNC.

First live show I attended…

*NSYNC No Strings Attached Tour!

First song I learned to play…

“Complicated” by Avril Lavigne

The song that encouraged me to learn my instrument of choice….

Travis Barker from Blink 182 made me want to learn the drums.  He was so bad a** and made it look effortless.

The song that reminds me of home…

“One Headlight” by the Wallflowers

My guilty secret track…

the entire Michelle Branch album The Spirit Room.

The song I wish I wrote…

“Unforgettable” by French Montana ft. Swae Lee or “I Know” by Dionne Farris

The finest song from my all time hero…

“Lucky” by Britney Spears

The song I’ve written of which I’m most proud…

“Gravel To Tempo.” I wrote that song during a challenging time in my life and the lyrics are 100% me.

The song that should be played at my funeral….

“Pipes of Peace” by Paul McCartney

My favorite track from my most recent project…

“Feelings” of course!
