Zac Farro spent a good deal of his life as drummer and one of the original members of rock band Paramore, but has recently steered his focus towards songwriting. His new upcoming album, Sudden Feeling, develops the themes first shared with audiences in the single “Inside” released back in 2015.
With a focus on pop-driven tunes and easy access to weighty lyrics Sudden Feeling is a compelling album from an artist at the beginning of a new chapter in his creative endeavors.
ARTISTdirect caught up with Zac Farro for a brief glimpse into his inspirations, aspirations and approach to forging ahead with brave new creations.
Where are you right now?
In my home in Nashville, TN
Please name your fellow band members and their roles… oh, and who has the best dance moves?
HALFNOISE is mainly just me. I have a band that tours with me for live shows. But its mainly just me. I can list my name a couple times? 😉
Tell us about your new project: Who did you work with? Where was it recorded? What’s it about? Is there candy?
My new project is called HALFNOISE, i started it a few years back. I have recorded HALFNOISE stuff all over. From New Zealand to LA to Nashville. And yes there are always treats.
How do you describe your music to new friends?
I say its indie pop music with a lot of percussion.
How did you first meet, and where exactly did you become a band?
Well, I met all the guys that tour in the band all through different musical friend circles.
Other than HALFNOISE, what should your hometown be known for?
Probably Country music or cowboy boots.
Please look around you right now and please describe the first item or person you see that’s significant to you.
Probably my Roland Juno 106 because I’m right next to it in my studio. This keyboard is the most inspiring tool I have when I am writing.
What first inspired you to pursue music? If it was a musician or a specific piece of music, please tell us all about why you find it so inspirational…
Probably when I was younger I always loved the drums. Then I got to play a drum kit for the first time and it changed my life. I only wanted to play and keep creating from then. I was 9.
What’s the best advice anyone has given you about pursuing a life in music?
The advice was, Make art and music because you love it and not for anyone else because you’re the one thats going to live with it for the rest of your life so you should be proud when looking back. Not wishing you had done it differently.
Not including your current crew, who (alive or dead) would you love to have in your van for an all day drive from gig to gig?
What song best sums up your life right now?
What is the best reaction to your music you have experienced so far?
My roommate said when he heard my new album it sounded like hanging out with me, Which was rad!
Take a moment to dream – Where do hope to be a year from now?
Hanging with friends creating music, Maybe dating a cutie. Hah.
What’s your next step towards that dream?
Doing it. 🙂
