Teen pop artist discusses hopes for the future, inspiration, and her new single
Teenage pop singer Ashley Brinton broke onto the scene last year with her debut single “All I Need”. She followed that up this year with “I Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love” and then “Slow Down”, which was added to Nickelodeon’s Fresh Faces music block, and recently received a music video.
Brinton is currently working on her debut EP, In Blossom, with production by Cory Rooney, famous for his previous success with Drake, J Lo, and Jessie J. It’s clear that expectations are high for the 16 year old artist, as fans eagerly anticipate new music set for release in early 2018.
ARTISTdirect caught up with Ashley Brinton to discuss her hopes for the future, inspiration, and new single.
Hello – Please introduce yourself.
Hi I am Ashley Brinton. I am a 16 year old singer-songwriter.
Where are you right now?
I am currently living in LA and loving it.
Tell us about your new project: Who did you work with? Where was it recorded? What’s it about? Is there candy?
“Slow Down” my new single was recorded in Miami and the music video was shot in LA. I worked with Cory Rooney, my Grammy winning producer. We had so much fun and really captured the Miami vibe in the song. There were lots of M&M’s on the set!! Yummy.
How do you describe your music to new friends?
My music is inspiring, fun and young. Pop with a twist.
What should your hometown be known for?
My hometown is Florida and known for the sweetest oranges.
Please look around you right now and please describe the first item or person you see that’s significant to you (and your relationship with it/them). Can we see a photo?
I am in my LA room right now and the first thing I am looking at is my dreamcatcher, which hangs above my bed. It catches any bad energy so I have super wonderful dreams that inspire me.
What first inspired you to pursue music? If it was a musician or a specific piece of music, please tell us all about why you find it so inspirational…
Music has always inspired me. When you have a bad day it lifts you up. It helps you get through tough times and it makes you smile. I always wanted to be that uplifting inspiration to others.
What’s the best advice anyone has given you about pursuing a life in music?
Follow your dreams. You have to believe to achieve. Never give up.
Not including your current crew, who (alive or dead) would you love to have in your van for an all day drive from gig to gig?
Taylor Swift for sure
What song best sums up your life right now?
“Best Day of My Life” by American Authors
What is the best reaction to your music you have experienced so far?
When someone I have admired actually said they loved one of my songs. I couldn’t even believe they knew who I was. It took my breath away.
Take a moment to dream – Where do hope to be a year from now?
Continue to be happy and loving the dream. Keep on making music that inspires. Going on tour to share my music.
What’s your next step towards that dream?
I will be releasing a new single before the holidays. In rehearsals now for the tour. Actually chose my backup dancers today. It’s getting so real. Stand by.
