Kylie Spence Introduces “Lying Eyes”

Laguna Beach singer-songwriter discusses her new single

Kylie Spence

Kylie Spence may be only 16 years old, but she is already a music industry veteran.  The singer-songwriter wrote and recorded her first song at the age of 12, and hasn’t stopped since. Back in July she released her newest track “Lying Eyes”.

“Lying Eyes” explores the depths of a tumultuous relationship, and those desperate, uneasy moments when you’re still trying to hold on. Backed by a subtle, twangy guitar, Spence’s voice takes centerstage. The track has a timeless quality about it, as it uses a variety of modern and vintage instruments, like a mellotron, wurlitzer, and harmonium.

The track has already been streamed over 100,000 times on Spotify, and debuted on the iTunes Hot Tracks Chart back in July. Now Kylie has returned with a new music video for the scorching song.

ARTISTdirect caught up with Kylie Spence to introduce her new video. Here’s what she said:

Kylie Spence:

I was inspired by so many things while writing Lying Eyes. Writing the song wasn’t something I went into knowing that I would come out with a new song. It kinda just happened, and I’m really glad it did. I remember sitting on my bedroom floor at like 10pm, three days before starting my freshman year of highschool. I had my acoustic guitar, and I was chillin in my sweats, just noodling around. I started off with basic minor chords that instantly took me to the desert, and the words just came to me. It was somewhat effortless which made the vibe much more organic. Sometimes I don’t know how I write songs with themes or topics i’ve never experienced. Lying Eyes is obviously about a relationship, and i’ve never even been in a serious relationship. I just have SUCH a deep empathy, and things that i’ve never been through just make sense. I first worked on further developing Lying Eyes when I showed it to my producer, Greg Cortez. He loved the song, so we demoed it. The demo was AMAZING. I loved it so much, and I knew I wanted to pursue the song and fully produce it. So that’s what we did. We added layers, subtracted layers, multiplied layers, divided layers… Jk. But we did a lot of changing and modifying, and after so many hours we ended up with what we thought was as close to perfect as it could get. From the start of my career, I had envisioned what my ideal and perfect music video would be. I always thought it would be so cool to shoot a video in the desert, with my dream car of 7 years (a ‘66 mustang) so we did it. It felt the most fitting for this song, and I am SOOOO happy with the way it turned out. I am so happy for the way EVERYTHING has turned out. Thank you so much for caring, supporting, and listening to my work!
