Jen Hirsh, aka MONOGEM released her debut self-titled EP in 2015. With its dreamy, synth-laden, buzzing singles, the EP captured the attention of tastemakers like NYLON, Interview Magazine, and Noisey (VICE), and has garnered millions of streams across all the usual platforms. Following in the wake of that success came "Take It Slow", released in 2016, and featured on Spotify's Weekend Buzz playlist and charted at #2 on Hype Machine.
Now back with a little more action MONOGEM has unveiled the official video for her single "Wild." Directed by Finders Pictures, and starring Coco Arquette (daughter of Courteney Cox & David Arquette) and Matthew RC Taylor.
ARTISTdirect caught up with MONOGEM and invited her to introduce the new video. Here’s what she said:
“I wrote "Wild" as an anthem for myself and for anyone who has a hard time finding rest in being reckless. The song takes hold of that childlike spirit within you and puts it on center stage -- unapologetically daring you to live up to your own standard. The video is a dreamy and colorful story about two best friends. I thought it would be interesting to create a visual showing two young teenagers getting wild in their own unique way. Amidst the kids’ smoky, neon reality, the boy is cross dressing for the first time in a safe and comfortable environment without any judgement. That is a beautiful thing.
With all of the craziness going on in the world today, I felt compelled to deliver this message and lyric to our very important younger generation: “Life’s too short to not live wild.” This is my third music video to date, and there is a recurring story-telling pattern that I am super proud of. It's a crazy feeling to watch a music video come together literally right before your eyes. As an independent artist, making a music video can be quite a process. Sometimes your original vision has to shift a bit and other times everything is completely spot on.
Regardless of any obstacles we had to overcome, I am 100% in love with the process. During our shoot day I couldn't even try to wipe the smile off of my face, sometimes I still can't believe that this is my job. Creating this video made me realize that there is no plan B, this is my path and I am so excited for what is to come this year. I can confidently say that I plan to continue telling stories through my music and art as long as I can.”
